Shabby Cottage Roses Handbag
Having a background in quilting, I learned a long time ago never to throw
fabric scraps away. I made this very shabby, vintage looking handbag from
fabrics I stashed in my scrap drawer, primarily in the Mary Rose
line. Typically I would use a firm fusible batting on my handbags but wanting
this one to have a soft, almost squeezable feel, I used layers of a soft, thin
quilt batting. The front is strip quilted and is accented with a delicate pink
lace and a tiny little strip of off white ribbon just under the pink checked
strip. The tab closure is secured by a beautiful vintage rhinestone button set
in metal. The stones are perfectly clear! The back has a nice sized pocket,
also strip quilted, and has another smaller, clear vintage rhinestone
button. There are two inside pockets, one if which is divided for cell phone,
sun glasses, keys, etc. This shabby little handbag stands 8” high, is 13”
across and has a 3 ˝ “ base. The straps have a 13” drop – great either hand
held or over the shoulder. Spot clean with mild detergent; dry clean when
necessary.
